Another Gardening Setback...

Well, my goal was to start the garden last week, and my landlord said that the garden plots would be available to start the gardening on April 16th, however...South Dakota weather being what it is...snow and winter weather advisories the very weekend I had decided to start my garden...that had to be put on hold.  My mom said not to worry, she always starts her garden the weekend after Good Friday anyway.  SO, my enthusiasm never dampened, I headed out to the garden plots to check on which way everything is facing, see how far from the hose hook-ups it would be, that way I could start the garden outline at least!  That was when I noticed that the landlord hadn't numbered the gardens yet anyway.  *sigh* But at least each of the plots are the same size, they are facing the same direction and I have the size that they are going to be.  And I have a list of supplies that I will have fun obtaining while I wait a few more days for the landlord to get back to finishing the garden plots for our apartment.  And really, I can't complain because it is so very generous of our landlord to even provide garden plots - I have never ever had a landlord that gave his tenants land to grow a garden on! But here are my exciting pictures of my soon-to-be garden!

They are building a hospital right next to our garden plots - lovely view, eh?

This is my approximate plot - they said I would have garden plot #8 - so I counted over 8 plots from the gate...

the hose hook-up - yay!!

Spring is Here!

For the first time in my adult life, I have the opportunity to grow my own garden.  One of the draws to moving into my current apartment complex was that each unit has their own spot for a garden - as long as they request one.  Yesterday I received my email from our landlord that they are tilling the ground for each unit's garden and they will be done by the end of this week.  My excitement has actually pushed me to distraction so far this week - at work I find my mind drifting to thoughts of tomatoes and peas and seed packets... I will sneak google for sites on starting a garden, and I take notes in the evenings when I call my mom for ideas on how to start my garden.  Needless to say, my goal is to become an expert Green Thumb Gardener, and I've decided to chart my progress though an online blog.
Here starts the beginning of my Green Career!
